In the center of the eclectic and vibrant corridor running from Gilman Street in Berkeley to Jack London Square, is Oakland’s oldest neighborhood. The Prescott-Oakland Point Neighborhood (PDF) flourished as the Terminus of the Transcontinental Railroad, chosen as such because it was the closest point to San Francisco in all of the East Bay. While at one time all rail and transit lines branched off from this point, today all major freeways, BART lines, AC Transit Lines, Amtrak, and bike paths connect this neighborhood to every major location in the Bay Area. Dining, shopping, and entertainment are within easy reach in every direction.
Within the Prescott-Oakland Point Neighborhood grows Central Station, Oakland’s newest community. The Pacific Cannery Lofts, as well as new townhomes, parks, apartments, & the 16th Street Station form the beginning of the up and coming Central Station community.
